The Kraken’s Crate is a community-focused board game, TTRPG, TCG, and tabletop gaming store in Newton, Iowa. We sell games — and we create space for people to gather, connect, and play.

We believe there’s always room at the table.

Can we just come in and play games?

Yes! That’s one of our favorite things.

We have a growing game library available for in-store play. You’re welcome to come in, grab a table, and enjoy a few hours of gaming.

Is there a fee to play?

Open play is free.

Some special events (tournaments, structured campaigns, ticketed nights) may have a small entry fee. Event details will always be listed on the calendar and social media.

Do you host events?

Absolutely! Check out our Facebook and Instagram for weekly events.

Is this place family-friendly?

Yes! We love when families come in to play together. Many of our games are great for kids, teens, and adults alike. If you need recommendations for a specific age group, just ask — we’re happy to help.

Can you order a game for me?

Yes! If we don’t have what you’re looking for, we can:

  • Special order games

  • Request TCG products (when available)

  • Notify you when items arrive

Just let us know what you’re hunting for and we’ll track it down. You pay when it comes in.

Do you sell Magic, Pokémon, Lorcana, etc.?

Yes! We carry:

  • Magic: The Gathering

  • Pokémon

  • Disney Lorcana

  • Other TCG products (availability varies)

We also host events like Friday Night Magic and casual TCG play nights.

Can I reserve a table? Or your semi-private room?

For regular open play, tables are first-come, first-served.

For:

  • Birthday parties

  • Private events

  • Large group reservations

Do you sell snacks or drinks?

We carry light snacks and beverages. Outside food is generally okay — just be respectful of the space and clean up after yourselves.

I’m new to tabletop gaming. Is this space for me?

YES.

You do not need experience.
You do not need to “know the rules.”
You do not need to own anything.

We love teaching games and helping people find the right fit. Whether you’re a lifelong gamer or just curious, you’re welcome here.
